Since 1978, Ted Fluehr Jr. has built a name as the premier custom home builder on Long Beach Island. Having built over 750 homes along the Jersey Shore, Ted Fluehr along with his wife Joanne and son TJ have developed a full service customer experience.

The tradition continues with Ted Fluehr Jr. Custom Home Builders, now led by TJ Fluehr III. Our team of professional project managers has vast experience in the industry and are trained to build according to the highest standards for custom building defined by Ted Fluehr. They enjoy the rigor and stability of working at Ted Fluehr Jr. Custom Homes and build only a select few homes each year to ensure that each home and client receives the necessary time and effort to coordinate, immerse in the project and interact with the daily requirements of each home.

TJ Fluehr III grew up the son of a home builder, learning the aspects of fine home building from the bottom up. Working summers for his father, TJ spent a lot of time on job sites & interacting with clients. “I always thought of my father as a great builder, on a large scale & knew that I wanted to follow in his footsteps as I joined the company.” TJ works with all of Ted Fluehr – Custom Builder’s clients from the inception of their project – assisting in architect interviews, aiding in the selection of a building site, and overseeing the project throughout construction.

Using a customer design or architect plan, they personally consult with each customer in the Surf City office.  Visiting our product showroom helps to identify a customer’s individual needs as well as the unique building materials, finishes, lighting and other design considerations.

Ted Fluehr Jr’s customer assistance is comprehensive.  It includes considerations for zoning and permitting, CAFRA waterfront approvals, LEED certifications and also financing options.

A two-generation, family owned business, Ted Fluehr Jr. Inc stands above the competition by offering a full time office staff and design consultant, in house Master and trim carpenters, a fleet of company owned and managed vehicles and over $5 million in comprehensive insurance.

Ted Fluehr Jr has built a reputation for quality and integrity, operating under the same business name and state license since 1978.

Legacy of Quality.

Ted Fluehr Jr Inc is proud to be a family owned company raising tomorrow’s leaders in quality and craftsmanship.  Watching his Father build quality homes and provide excellent customer service since 1978, TJ Fluehr leads a committed team of construction professionals on the job site as construction manager.

“In 1978 I built my first house.  Back then, we used to do everything,” recalls Ted Fluehr Jr. “Over the years, our business grew to include subcontractors and has become more specialized.  Many of our subcontractors that work for me have been with us for 35 years.  Some of their children are working for us alongside their fathers.  TJ works closely with our subcontractors on every job site making sure everything is right.”

Fluehr continues, “Nowadays, I do a little bit of everything.  I’m out there for half a day everyday going from job to job, and weekends.  On Sundays, Joanne and I go around and visit all the houses and make my lists and see what needs attention.  I’m very pleased with the work my team accomplishes.”

TJ Fluehr brings energy and an eye to detail learned from his father on the job site.  Joanne adds, “Ted is a hands-on builder, and TJ had that same kind of training, learning the business from the ground up.  Additionally, he attended Architecture at the University of Maryland earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business.  He’s not just our son but an important asset to this company.”
